Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Akagera National Park.
Arrival in Kigali and City Tour: Your guide will pick you up at the Kigali international airport when you arrive in Kigali. Following a brief introduction, you will set out on a tour of Kigali, stopping at interesting cultural and historical sites like the Camp Kigali Memorial Center, the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Umusambi Village, which is home to rescued gray crested cranes in Rwanda, Caplaki Craft Village, and Nyamirambo Women’s Center, to name a few. Lunch is recommended before continuing with your transfer to Akagera National Park following your tour of Kigali City.
Transport to Akagera: With over 8,000 large land animals, Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only sanctuary for savannah wildlife. Also, it is the only national park in the nation where you have an opportunity to witness the renowned Big 5 African creatures. A 212 hour journey from the center of Kigali, the park is located approximately 110 kilometers away. You will start an evening boat game drive in the park when you get there. In the evening, retire to your lodge for food and lodging.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise in Akagera National Park.
Breakfast should be consumed early in the morning before departing on a morning wildlife drive. Discover the stunning savanna and surroundings of the park. Throughout the park, you will also have the chance to witness wildlife creatures like elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, and waterbucks, to name a few.
Evening Boat Cruise: After returning to your lodge for lunch and a brief period of rest, you will board a boat for an evening cruise on Lake Ihema. You will observe the magnificent wildlife in the park, including Nile crocodiles, hippos, and some water birds like the marabou stork, herons, and the African fish eagle, while on a boat tour. After your boat ride, you can select to go guided nature walk and see the magnificent flora and animal species that Akagera National Park has to offer.
After dinner, head back to your lodge for a restful night’s sleep.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Travel to the Volcanoes: On the 3rd day of your 7 Days Best of Rwanda Safari, have breakfast after waking up early. After stopping at the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, continue your transfer to the Volcanoes National Park at Ruhengeri. It will take you 4-5 hours to travel by car from Akagera to Volcanoes National Park. We’ll stop for lunch en route to the park. Check into your lodge for meals and lodging when you get to the park.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Iby’iwacu Village Tour.
Gorilla Trekking: Have breakfast early in the day and travel to the park’s administrative center in Kinigi, where you will receive a briefing and be divided into groups of eight. Keep in mind that your gorilla trekking safari will start at 8 am, so be punctual at all times. The average tracking time for gorilla groups is 2 to 8 hours, with an hour of direct contact with the gorillas when the group has been found. One must be physically and mentally prepared for the strenuous action because hiking through the forest may prove to be a bit difficult. In case it rains while you are in the forest, don’t forget to bring a raincoat and a decent pair of hiking boots.
Visit to the Iby’iwacu Community: After your gorilla hike, you will eat your lunch on the move before traveling to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where you will learn about the fascinating cultural history of the Rwandan people. While there, you will get a brief glimpse into the inhabitants’ daily lives, have the chance to look at their traditional handicrafts, and see dance performances by the community’s dance and drum group.
Return to your lodge later for dinner and to spend the night.
Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.
On the 5th day of your 7 Days Best of Rwanda Safari , Get up promptly to have breakfast at your accommodation before your transfer to Nyungwe. After that, you’ll go via Gisenyi to Nyungwe National Park. Driving from Volcanoes National Park to Nyungwe will take you about 412 hours. You will have a stopover at Lake Kivu for a boat ride on the lake and another for lunch enroute to the park. Check into your lodge or hotel for meals and lodging when you arrive in Nyungwe.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking & Visit Gisakura Tea Estate.
Chimpanzee Trekking: On the sixth day of your seven-day “Best of Rwanda” safari, you will have the opportunity to follow some of the chimpanzees that have been habituated in Nyungwe Forest National Park. By 7 a.m., you’ll be expected at the park’s headquarters building. The actual chimpanzee trekking begins at 8 am, and you will be divided into groups of no more than six for this activity. In Nyungwe, chimpanzee treks can last between four and six hours, including the hour that trekkers are given after a group of chimpanzees is found. For lunch, return to your lodging.
Visit Gisakura Tea Estate: Later in the evening, you might head to Gisakura Tea estate. You will be guided through the growing, picking, processing, and packaging of tea at this point. Even the finished product’s wonderful flavor will be available for you to sample.

Day 7: Canopy Walkway & Transfer back to Kigali.
