Gishwati Mukura national park is attractive safari destination in Rwanda. Where the name of the park originates from the two separate forests that is Gishwati and Mukura. Gishwati-Mukura is the Rwanda’s fourth national park, and the new national park in the country that was established in 2015 with the government passing the law through the effort to protect the chimpanzees that are located in the park.The park is the smallest that covers an area of about 34 sq. ml. It is a wildlife safari haven consisting of several primates, reptiles, bird species, tree species and among many others.

Animal species.
Gishwati-Mukura national park is an animal paradise with the largest numbers of the animal species and primates that attracts various tourists worldwide to watch on the richness of Rwanda. The park consists of the primate species like the chimpanzees, Blue monkeys, Black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys and among many others. The park as well harbors the number of big mammals that includes buffaloes, black-fronted duiker, red river hog others includes the reptiles, amphibians, small mammals and among others.
Bird species.
Gishwati-Mukura national park has got the various numbers of the bird species that makes the park to look colourful and more attractive to various tourists especially the bird lovers with over 126 bird species, where 14 are of special conservation found in the endemic to the Albertine Rift. Some of the bird species to spot in the park on the Rwanda safari includes the Grey Crowned Crane, regal Sunbird, Martial Eagle, Strange weave, Ruwenzori Turaco, Mountain Yellow Warblers, red-throated Alathe, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Woodhoopoe, Regal Sunbird and among many others.

Chimpanzee trekking.
Chimpanzee trekking is the main top safari activity to why most of the tourists from everywhere come to the safari destination for chimpanzee trekking in Gishwati-Mukura national park.The safari activity starts very early in the morning with the with the briefing at the park headquarters about the exceptions, rules and regulations about the chimpanzee trekking, after the activity the trekkers can be divided themselves into various groups of 8 members per each group and each group can be given by the park guide. Then you can be exposed into the jungle in the park to look for the chimpanzees, the activity takes a period of about 2 hours to 5 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees.
Along the way trekking you can get the opportunity for sighting various biodiversity that gives you the best impression when carrying out chimpanzee trekking. After finding the chimps you can be given one hour to be with the presence of the chimpanzees while observing their behaviors, how they feed, how they make their nests for their next night, how the old ones groom the young ones and among others. In that one hour you can take the pictures and record the videos to show people home after the safari though using cameras with less flash.
Waterfall hiking.
Waterfall hiking is the famous safari activity that takes place in Mukura-Gishwati national park as this can be charming, as you get rewarded by the Kazenenza waterfall. During the hiking safari in the park to the waterfall the tourists can spot the different kinds of plantations that catches their eyes for example Igishigishigi, and among others. Still during the waterfall hiking in the park the tourists can be able to sight the beautiful kinds of bird species, animal species along the way which makes the safari activity the most exciting one with the great safari memories.
