How To Get To Queen Elizabeth National Park : Queen Elizabeth national park is the second largest national park in Uganda following Murchison falls national park and is one of the most sought after and visited parks. It is located in the southwestern part of the country in the districts of kasese, Rukungiri and Kamwenge. The park is 1,978sqkm. It is home to various wild animals like the famous tree climbing lions, elephants, leopards, hippos, buffaloes, warthogs, primates such as the chimpanzees, white colobus monkeys and many more animals. You can enjoy the boat cruise along the kazinga channel with a wide range of views and see birds like the African fish eagle, African broad bill, king fisher, African shoebill and many more.
The park can be accessed by either road or air transport means
ROAD TRANSPORT
Queen Elizabeth can be accessed by road transport where tourists drive using a bus or private car from Kampala city or from the international airport. The drive passes through masaka, Mbarara, kasese or mubende-fort portal and then head to the national park headquarters. The drive takes 6 to 7hours.
The national park can also be accessed while using other destinations. Such as from kasese its around 40 minutes to 1 hour to reach queen Elizabeth national park.
From Kibale forest national park to the park it takes 3 to 4 hours drive
From fort portal to the national park, it only takes 2 to 3hours drive.
From lake Mburo to queen Elizabeth national park it takes 4 to 5 hours drive
From Semuliki national park it takes the tourists 2 to 3 hours drive to reach queen Elizabeth national park.
From mount Rwenzori national park tourists take about 1hour to reach to the park.
From Mbarara to the national park it takes 2 to 3 hours’ drive to reach.
From Bwindi national park the drive takes 4 to 5 hours to reach queen Elizabeth national park through the ishasha sector.
While using road transport, one can either use public means by using a bus that do daily trips from Kampala to kasese or hire a car to connect to the national park headquarters because public means can’t access the park.
BY AIR TRANSPORT
The Park can be accessed by air means where tourists book a domestic scheduled or charter flights with Aerolink Uganda limited from either Entebbe international airport or kajjansi airfield to kasese airstrip or mweya as well as ishasha. Scheduled flights from Entebbe international airport set off at 7am, 10am,12pm and reach at mweya or kasese at 10;20am,12;05pm and 2pm respectively.
Flights from kasese or mweya airstrip set off at 10;20am, 12;20pm and 2;20pm reach at 11;25am, 1;30pm and 4;15pm respectively.
Therefore domestic flights to queen Elizabeth national park are booked by tour operators and before the actual date of the safari.
Although air transport is expensive, it’s convenient, faster and stress free compared to road transport. On the other hand, road transport is long and causes fatigue but it offers the best spots and scenery of the surrounding areas of the park and other parts of the country on the road such as the equator thus more adventurous and amazing experiences while on a Uganda wildlife safari.
