Twin lakes in Rwanda
Twin lakes in Rwanda Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo are the attractive twin lakes in Rwanda, that you can see on a Rwanda safari, these two lakes do border one another that’s why they are called the twin lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo have the beautiful scenery and located at the base of Mount Muhabura, and they situated close to Volcanoes national park. Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo were formed by means of the volcanic activity after the volcanic eruption that took place in the northern part of Rwanda on Mount Muhabura, of which mount Muhabura is today known as a dormant volcano that surrounds the twin lakes. These lakes were born from the river Nyabarongo that is the country’s largest river that is when the lava that flowed from the volcano blocked the way the river’s water flow that formed these two lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Infact Nyabarongo river goes beyond and flows the east way to join the Akanyau river they forms Akagera river that is found in Akagera national park.
